Born in China in 1947, 许鞍华 moved to Hong Kong when she was still in her youth. After graduating in English and Comparative Literature from Hong Kong University, she spent two years at the London Film School. Returning to Hong Kong, she worked as an assistant to director 胡金铨 before joining TVB to direct drama series and short documentaries.
