Sue Carol was born Evelyn Jean Lederer on October 30, 1906 in Chicago, Illinois, to Caroline (Schmidt) and Samuel Lederer. Her parents were Jewish immigrants (from Bohemia and Germany). She was 20 years old when she entered film work. Her first role was a bit part in Soft Cushions (1927) in 1927.
