Roberto Benabib was born in Mexico City, Mexico. He attended NYU film school and began his career as 乔纳森·戴米's assistant. He has produced and written numerous television series including Ally McBeal (1997) Weeds (2005) and The Brink (2015) as well as writing and directing the Miramax film 恋一阵的爱 (1997).
