或许正像达莫自己所说的那样：“我总是被自己的冲动所驱使，我不知道怎样来消除它。我其实对此并不满意，因此我可能是想满足另外一些愿望。但是，结果就是这样，数目不断上升，最后无法收拾……”。达莫似乎奉信魔鬼，他说：“我不知道是否有上帝，是否有魔鬼。但是我觉得他们都在影响我。”他收集纪念品得一个重要原因，似乎是为了收集各种力量，来帮助自己更为强大。
社会万象
达莫极端残忍的暴行还反映出美国社会当时存在的一个弊端，那就是美国社会普遍对弱势团体（尤其是有色人种）的忽视，甚至是歧视。密尔沃基市是一座工业城市，城市中大量的廉价劳动力主要是来自发展中国家的移民。达莫就居住在移民区，而他的被害人大部分是非洲裔、亚裔和西班牙裔的移民。在案件侦察过程中，对于警方而言“一位三十岁上下的白种人男性必定是一位守法公民”几乎是一种思维定式，所以达莫根本就不曾进入警方怀疑范围。
纵观本案不难发现：一方面，移民聚集区的警方大多对有色人种带有歧视，而对于有色人种的权益更是缺乏保护（相对于白种人而言）；另一方面，警方对移民管理不利，对于大量非法入境的移民疏于管理，对他们的死活就更是不闻不问了。达莫本人是否是一个种族主义者不好妄断，但是他作恶十余年才被抓获与他作案的地区以及选择的侵害对象是密不可分的，也可以说，正是当是横行移民聚集区的种族歧视主义保护了这个恶魔。
