Jessica 出生于哥伦比亚市(密苏里)，父亲RobertCapshaw是位业务经理，母亲则是著名的女演员KateCapshaw（曾演出过魔宫传奇），父母两人相识密苏里大学，婚后一家三口搬至纽约。三岁时双亲离异，母亲KateCapshaw于电影拍摄时认识斯蒂芬·斯皮尔伯格陷入热恋，不久便带着Jessica嫁给了斯蒂芬·斯皮尔伯格，斯蒂芬·斯皮尔伯格也成为Jessica的继父。Jessica于1994年毕业于哈佛西湖学校，在1998年取得布朗大学的英语文学学士学位后，随即进入著名的伦敦皇家戏剧艺术学院学习表演。
