1819年4月，雨果和阿黛尔·富歇相恋。 1822年10月12日，雨果与阿黛尔在巴黎结婚。二人婚后育有二子二女：1823年7月16日，阿黛尔生一子，但不幸夭折。1824年8月28日，长女莱奥波尔迪娜出世，1843年她和新婚丈夫在度蜜月途中双双溺亡。1826年11月2日，长子夏尔·雨果出世。1828年10月21日，次子弗朗索瓦—维克多出世。1830年7月28日，次女阿黛尔出世。
恋爱
1832年，30岁的雨果与26岁的女演员朱丽叶·德鲁埃邂逅，并坠入爱河，朱丽叶·德鲁埃每天都要给雨果写一封情书，直到她77岁去世，50多年从未间断，共写了将近两万封的书信，近18000封信保存在法国国家图书馆。他们的爱情故事成为法国人津津乐道的浪漫事迹。
